Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by the homeowner, who graciously led us to his second-floor bathroom. There, he explained a troubling issue with a leak originating from the tub drain, which had caused noticeable damage to the ceiling below. Upon inspection and discussion, we presented him with various solutions to rectify the situation.
After careful deliberation, the homeowner opted for us to replace the leaking fitting and overhaul the tub's east and overflow system. This required opening a portion of the wall within the closet space. We commenced our work by meticulously preparing the area and ensuring floor protection.
As we began dismantling the old system, we encountered a potential risk to the tub itself posed by the original drain and shoe. After consulting the homeowner, he chose to retain the existing shoe while covering the drain with a new chrome shroud featuring a strainer and plug.
Prior to installing the new components, we conducted a thorough power cleaning of the drain line to mitigate any future blockages. This involved creating a new opening in the drain system and cleaning to the approximate distance of the toilet.
Following installation, we rigorously tested the system and found no further issues with leaking or drainage. After tidying up and gathering our equipment, we applied a seal to the new drain shroud, advising the homeowner that it would require several hours to properly cure and recommending refraining from using the tub for at least 24 hours.
