Recently, we've been seeing increased attention on our nation's drinking water from all the major media outlets. Our water's safety is often taken for granted. Yet, while we take our drinking water for granted, our water is being threatened by various chemicals within our water supply.

The most recent President’s Cancer Panel Report (see: http://deainfo.nci.nih.gov/advisory/pcp/pcp08-09rpt/PCP_Report_08-09_508.pdf) offers that filtered tap water is preferable to commercial bottled water. According to the Report, “Filtering home tap or well water can decrease exposure to numerous known or suspected carcinogens and endocrine-disrupting chemicals.  Unless the home water source is known to be contaminated, it is preferable to use filtered tap water instead of commercially bottled water.”

With new chemicals appearing regularly, there are over 80,000 chemicals found in our drinking water supply. Even the means of keeping our water safe through chlorination itself has been identified as a carcinogenic by the EPA. Long term exposure to these contaminants can lead to cancer and other health complications.

As the report states, even a simple water filter at your home will make a difference for you and your family — making your tap water safer over bottled water. To learn more about the various options for your home, please feel free to call me at 773-276-5430.
