Past Projects - Removal of Grease Trap in kitchen

Plumbing
Chicago, IL
Project Year: 2024

Project Description

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the tenant, who kindly granted us access to his unit. He shared that he had been experiencing an unpleasant sewer odor emanating from the kitchen sink’s grease trap ever since he moved in six months ago.

Upon closer inspection, we discovered that the grease trap was heavily clogged with grease and had compromised the integrity of the bottom of the kitchen cabinet. Most of the piping was concealed behind drywall. To address this issue, we formulated several potential solutions and promptly contacted the landlord to seek his approval.

Fortunately, the landlord agreed to have the grease trap removed and to reroute the piping directly under the sink instead of tearing open the wall and redoing the piping concealed within. We then proceeded to remove the grease trap and carefully cut the PVC piping as close to the back of the cabinet as possible before reconnecting it. We allowed the adhesive to set properly before testing the system by filling both sinks and running water.

We are pleased to report that the drainage system operated flawlessly, efficiently whisking away the water without any leaks. After ensuring the functionality of our work, we diligently cleaned up the workspace and disposed of any debris.
